General Start/Finish Area

11years of age minimum

Volunteers in this job must:

Be able to lift 20 lbs for short periods

Be alert in promptly performing duties assigned your team

All volunteers must follow directions of your group leader and Portland Marathon Committee supervisor. Porta-potties are available within the start/finish area.

Volunteers for this position will be assigned to general duties in the Start/Finish area 

General duties for this position may include: Assisting with various event tasks such as providing answers and directions to race participants, finish line carpet set-up, placement of finish line timing clocks, directing finishers through finish chutes to exit, distributing space blankets and medals, control of volunteer exit and entry gates, control of access to medical tent, control of gates and street configurations and/or assisting with beverage and food distribution and end of event wrap-up.

Volunteers will  assist in Marathon Park wherever most needed.  Volunteers will receive a T-Shirt to wear during their shift. We recommend dressing in layered clothing for Fall weather conditions. Please bring a light snack or sack lunch and water or other beverage for your shift. Please do not wear open toed shoes or sandals or flip-flops because volunteers for these positions will be standing for extended periods of time.

Parking is available on street away from Marathon Course. Additional parking is available in parking garages for a fee. Because of severe congestion around the start area on the Day of event, we recommend volunteers working in the start/finish area consider taking MAX or other public transit. Coming from Hillsboro leave MAX at 4th and Yamhill. Coming from Gresham/Lloyd Center get off MAX at 4th & Morrison.
