Hello Nordic Walkers,

Thanks to Les Smith's continued support and vision this year Portland Marathon's Nordic Walking has been expanded to offer something for all fitness, ages and skill levels of Nordic Walkers!

Marathon Distance Championship
The 3rd Annual Marathon Distance Nordic Walking World Championship is open to all. Go for the gold or just have fun with this challenging distance. Please be familiar with the rules posted on this page.

5 Mile Distance World Championship
In response to your requests we are pleased to announce this years event will have a 5 mile Nordic Walking Championship. This distance is great for non-competitors or those new to the sport looking for a good healthy day of fun with family and friends. Please be familiar with the rules posted on this page.

To enter Marathon and 5-Miler Nordic Walking Championships online:

On the online registration form, check "Yes" to the "Are you a Nordic Walk Participant?" question.
Send an e-mail to ptldmarathonwalks@yahoo.com indicating the following: 1) that you wish to enter the Nordic Walk competition and 2) that you have read and understand the Nordic Walking rules posted on this page.

To enter Marathon and 5-Miler Nordic Walking Championships using a paper application:

Write NORDIC WALK in large letters across the top of the registration form in addition to checking the "Marathon" box.
Enclose a letter with your registration form indicating the following: 1) that you wish to enter the Nordic Walk competition and 2) that you have read and understand the Nordic Walking rules posted on the this page. You may also send an e-mail to ptldmarathonwalks@yahoo.com with this information if you have access to e-mail.

On Marathon weekend:

If you are competing in the 5-Miler or Marathon Nordic Walking Championships, please check in at the Racewalk/Nordic Walk table located in the Registration area at the Expo. Volunteers will have Nordic Walk instructions. In order to be judged and to be eligible for 5-Miler or Marathon awards, it is extremely important that all Nordic Walk participants check in at the Racewalk/Nordic Walk table - do not check in initially at the standard Registration area. Note: 10K Mayor’s Fun Nordic Walkers should check in at the Mayor’s Walk Table.

Instructor's Course
Are you ready to take to the next level and share the fitness benefits of Nordic Walking with others?Consider becoming a Fittrek Nordic Walking Instructor in this comprehensive 8 hour course. $200.00fee. Judge's Workshop
This 4 workshop covers techniques for judging and logistics of hosting a competitive Nordic Walking event. No fee. Sign Up is required by calling 800-345-1004.

Race Director's Workshop
A 1 hour workshop designed for race directors considering including Nordic Walking into their running or walking events. Equipment, safety, course design, pacing and other logistics will be covered. No Fee. Sign Up is required by calling 800-345-1004.

Nordic Walking Clinics
This 1 hour clinic is designed for retailers that are considering offering Nordic Walking gear in their stores. Pole types, grip styles, strap design and techniques will be covered by the founder of Fittrek? Dan Barrett. No fee. Sign up is required by calling 800-345-1004.

Nordic Walking Demos
Ever wondered what those crazy pole people are doing? Explore the benefits and equipment of Nordic Walking in one of our 30 minute demonstration. No fee. Please visit www.fittrek.com for dates and times.

Swag Bag
Every Nordic Walking finisher at this years event will receive a "swag bag" full of Nordic Walking goodies. Just stop by the Fittrek NW cool down tent to pick up your gift and meet others of your kind (pole people).
